JOB DESCRIPTION: DORM COORDINATOR/COUNSELOR
The Dorm Coordinator/Counselor (DC) is employed by the Upward Bound program as liaison between full-time staff and other dorm staff. They report directly to the full-time faculty. The DC exhibits leadership and encourages team work and a positive atmosphere in the dorms. They are responsible for dorm activities, discipline, team supervision and record keeping. The Dorm Coordinator is to maintain the best possible group atmosphere. They coordinate and supervise all personnel aspects of the dorm staff, including scheduling, team management and communication. They also assist in other areas where and when appropriate. They help develop and carry out student extracurricular activities and will help supervise students on field trips. Finally, the DC is responsible for the guidance and supervision of the summer bridge students.
The following specifies the major responsibilities delegated to the Dorm Coordinator/Counselor. In addition to the other responsibilities, the Dorm Coordinator/Counselor will:
1-Supervise the staff of Tutor/Counselors.
2-Report to Program Director any unapproved absences of Tutor/Counselor staff from dorm, including regular unavailability.
3-Hold daily formal meetings with dorm staff to review daily schedule, ensure open communication and review student demerits.
4-Become well acquainted with dorm staff, meeting informally and regularly to exchange ideas to make the program more effective.
5- Maintain safety and security of the dorm.
6- Insure that all paperwork is completed in a timely fashion and delivered to the Program Director.
7-Make the Program Director aware of any existing problems in the dorm.
8-Work with program staff members to insure consistency in disciplinary action for the students.
9-Be responsible for scheduling office hours, sick-call duty, bridge student monitors during study time, food service program monitors activity monitors, lobby hours and classroom monitors.
10-Supervise schedule and study-time scheduling for bridge students.
11- Ensure staff meets with students on a weekly basis and updates parents on student progress weekly.
12- Oversees the coordinate field days and other recreational programs.
13- Meet daily with Upward Bound full-time staff.
14-Check the Upward Bound office daily for mail, messages, teacher lists of absences and classroom notes.
15-Coordinate consequences for tardies/absences, etc; be responsible for providing appropriate Tutor/Counselors with this information as relevant.
