Latanya R. Walker currently serves as the Upward Bound Assistant Director and Counselor.  In 1987, she graduated from Blacksburg High School in Blacksburg,Virginia and attended Virginia Tech where, she earned her B.S. in Family and Child Development. After gaining work experience that includes teaching pre-school, directing activities in a retirement home and working as a family service worker with Head Start, she attended Radford University to earn her .M.S. in Counseling and Human Development with a concentration in school counseling.  After completing her master's, she worked for two years as an advisor for the department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. She joined the Upward Bound program as a counselor, in 1999.   As a former Upward Bound student, she jumped on the chance to work with high school students in a program she respects and loves.
